Audio has been an important part of David's professional work, beginning with U.S. major market radio engineering in 1983, becoming chief engineer at United Broadcastings’ WKDM in 1991.  He worked at NPR affiliate WAMU-FM and the NAB Science and Technology Department, publishing numerous articles about broadcasting and serving as a contributing author to NAB Engineering Handbook editions 7 and 8.  Forming a systems engineering consultancy in 1995, he advised various broadcast and audio companies on technology integration, including studio construction, computer networking, VOIP telephony and Internet Streaming.  He was Director of Stream Operations for CBS Radio and Entercom Media.  Currently he consults on Broadcast and Streaming and continues to write for trade publications. He is an active member of AES, SMPTE, IEEE (BTS) and is a SBE Senior Member and AES Fellow.  He was awarded the AES Distinguished Service Medal in 2018.  He currently co-chairs the AES Technical Committee for Broadcast and Online Delivery and for over three decades has chaired the Broadcast and Online Delivery track at the Audio Engineering Society Convention.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from American University.
