Judith Kampfner

Workshop 102 Faculty / Producer
Judith Kampfner trained as a career coach at NYU and then with Dr Eric Maisel the originator of the field of creativity coaching.

A lecturer and broadcaster with thirty years of experience, she's been a radio maker for BBC, WNYC, WBEZ, NPR, and Australian Broadcasting. Since 2005, her company, 'Corporation For Independent Media' has consistently produced award-winning documentaries and audio dramas for BBC radio.
As a creative coach, she shows you how to make a good living as a freelancer, become a staff producer or develop entrepreneurially. She teaches you how to pitch in an intensely competitive environment, overcome resistance and bounce back from rejection.
According to Judith, "It's an exciting time for anyone in audio - there are many new outlets to target. Together we'll investigate the options including games, VR, self-guided tours, installations, business promos, global radio, competitions, podcast showcases and more. We may also look at incorporating visuals with audio, using a mix of personal and reportage, fiction and nonfiction and combining genres."
Born in Singapore, Kampfner has lived and worked on four continents. In the past five years, eight percent of her audio output has garnered major awards.
She’s known as a narrator, director, producer and writer. She has long-term collaborations with composers, authors, actors and sound designers. She's worked with writers ranging from George Pelecanos to Mike Daisey, actors like Rosamund Pike and Tracy Letts and interviewed musicians such as Steve Reich and Talib Kweli.
She holds a BA and MA from the University of Cambridge (History and Politics). She has a post-graduate degree in teaching from Cambridge and completed graduate work in Theatre Arts in Australia. She trained as a radio drama producer at the Australian Broadcasting Company in Sydney and became national Executive Producer.
Back in her native London, she produced short and long-form documentaries for all BBC radio networks. She moved to Chicago reporting on the Midwest for the BBC and added NPR to her roster. She joined New York Public Radio (WNYC) to produce the pilot phase of Studio 360, (the Peabody award-winning arts show) and remained on staff for six years as Senior Arts Producer. In 2005, she left to form her own company, Corporation For Independent Media that has won guaranteed programs on BBC dramas and documentary slots.
She’s developed an audio fiction podcast for Slate, made science podcasts for the University of Edinburgh and many for the BBC.

Judith's audio work will be heard on Friday, June 12, 2020 at 11:30am as part of Podcast Palooza.
